GT Racing 2: real car game 1.6.1c

Race and crash

Race and crash

Couple you safety buckles, grab the tablet and hold the acceleration button! In this sequel to the Gran Turismo copycat, called GT Racing, you will be, once again, purchasing sweet looking cars and racing them across famous world tracks.

GT Racing 2 - bumper cam

In GT Racing you will build a collection of sports vehicles from more than 30 car manufacturers. You will race them through various types of events in single player mode, but also in multiplayer mode, either within a league or with your friends.

The single player mode resembles a sort of campaign. In it you participate at racing events, scoring stars for ranking high. These stars unlock events for stronger vehicles. Essentially events are grouped in car classes. Starting with F you will need to gain enough stars to unlock D class events. You will also need to acquire a D class car in order to start playing.

Events range from regular races to take-overs, "knock-out" and "king of the hill" type runs where you score points continuously depending your current position.

Cars can be upgraded to increase maneuverability, top speed or braking. This is also recommended on certain tracks. The procedure unfortunately takes time and available mechanics. You cannot use a car as long as an upgrade is being applied to it. The more mechanics you have, the more upgrades can be installed simultaneously. Of course being a freemium game, you can spend in acquirable in game currency to speed up upgrades or buy more technicians.

Multiplayer pits you against friends from the the Gameloft network and also allows a tier based participation in match-ups. Moreover, there are frequent event races that are highlighted in the main screen so you don't miss them.

Right, right, but how does the game play?

Well, you have four different control schemes to chose from. These include a virtual steering wheel, tilting and auto acceleration. You also get to chose driving assists for braking and turning at the start of each race. I wholeheartedly recommend turning them off, otherwise you will feel like driving bumper cars.

The gameplay is not very realistic, you don't get to drift when combining braking and turning, collisions are treated very forgivingly and handling does not suffer at high speeds (that is there's no destabilization of the sort).

You do get rewarded for exemplary racing by receiving coins on takeovers and perfect turns... although I did receive this reward while hugging the guardrail several times.

This leads me to the not so admirable facts of GT Racing. SHOW-STOPPER BUGS! Although it has a year of existence, crashes can be experienced fairly often in menus and while loading. This coupled with whether you are online or offline, can literally erase your progress, cars, and other upgrades instantly. Beware of this before investing real currency into this game.

If you don't care about this aspect though, you will find that the racing is fun and fairly challenging. The racetracks have some cool backdrops (although some feel like racing RC cars between stacks of books) and the visual effects are nicely done.

Conclusion

Overall, GT Racing is not a simulation game. It is an arcade racer with real life car models. If it weren't for its Beta version level of stability, it might be quite cool. So far it is only a worthy attempt at being the definitive GT experience on the Android system.
